One of my favorite sayings is: "Reasonable people can disagree." I use it at home, at work, with friends and with strangers. I use it for political arguments but also much more mundane matters (crunchy vs. smooth, peanut vs. plain, etc.).
Now I have to use it for my friend Doug who didn't like Marilynne Robinson's book Gilead as much as I did.
Read Doug's post here.
Read my praise of "Gilead" here and here.

Let me state that I believe that you are wrong and will never be right about Gilead! Thanks for the shout out.
(Just joking if no one can figure that one out)
I will have to remember that phrase. Anytime I talk to someone that starts to unreasonably disagree with me I start to get made at the person no the person's point of view. I just cannot stand people that cannot discuss opposing ideas and view with understanding. There is nothing wrong with disagreeing.
There is nothing wrong with disagreeing. But a lot of people don't know how to disagree without being rude. Courtesy helps disagreement a lot. I try to keep two things in mind when I disagree with someone. No.1: The other guy might have a point. No.2: The other guy has good motives. Making these assumptions helps reasonable discourse.
